He passed when my son was about 6 months old. A few months later we got a puppy. My son is 3 years old and we now have FOUR dogs. Two large, two small, and they are all WONDERFUL with children. Two of my dogs I got as rescues, already adults and they are wonderful with my son, regardless of their past. I had a cat when my son was born and they adored eachother.
